Bank robber located by US Marshal Service

The man law enforcement officials are telling Historic City News committed the robbery of a Compass Bank branch located on US-1 South last Tuesday at 2:37 p.m., is in custody in the Palm Beach County jail. According to Sheriff’s spokesman, Kevin Kelshaw, the man may have also committed a bank robbery in Volusia County and attempted another in Flagler County late last month.

At about 9:40 a.m. this morning, the US Marshal Service took 32-year-old William Carl Styffe into custody after tracking the man from St Augustine to his residence in Coconut Creek, Broward County, Florida.

According to the arrest warrant obtained late last week, Styffe attempted to conceal his identity by stealing two license plates from vehicles parked at Flagler Hospital prior to the robbery. He went inside the branch bank and approached a female teller; demanding money. The teller complied, and then Styffe fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. As Styffe made good his getaway, a witness to the crime obtained the tag number from the vehicle he used to escape.

Sufficient evidence was obtained at the scene of the robbery to identify Styffe and link him to the crime; as required to obtain the arrest warrant. He is currently being held for extradition back to St Johns County, in lieu of $100,000 bond. Flagler and Volusia County robbery detectives are aware of this morning’s arrest and are continuing their investigations.
