St Augustine Lifesaving Association President, Jeremy Watkins, has asked Historic City News readers to participate in an upcoming yard sale event to benefit 21-year-old Johnny McClure; a member of the US Lifeguard Association, St Augustine Lifesaving Association, Marine Rescue Team, and participant on the St Johns County Lifeguard Competition team.
McClure is a graduate of Pedro Menendez High School where he was a competitive soccer player on the swim team. He received a Bright Futures scholarship and went on to the University of Central Florida, but has had to postpone his undergraduate study since being diagnosed with Leukemia.
“Johnny has been battling Crones disease for the greater part of his life,” Watkins told local reporters. “He is at UF Health Jacksonville where he has elected to receive the most aggressive treatment possible; creating exorbitant medical bills for him and his single-mother.”
Historic City News was informed that 100% of the proceeds from the yard sale will be used to help pay for McClure’s medical treatment.
Please call Robin at (904) 814-6738 by Tuesday, August 27th if you have donations for the yard sale. She will arrange for a pick-up, or you can drop off items directly at Good News Church on Friday, September 6th, after 4:00 p.m. After August 27th, or, if you are unable to drop items off at Good News Church, you may call Watkins at (904) 484-4514 or David Suarez at (352) 246-3540 to make special arrangements.
The sale will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, September 7th in the Good News Church Gym, located at 1357 Wildwood Drive in St Augustine.
Watkins told Historic City News that the organization will be accepting check donations payable to “Johnny McClure” and mailed to St Augustine Lifeguard Association, c/o Johnny Watkins, PO Box 840260, St Augustine, FL 32080.
