Bomb scare at Flagler Hospital emergency room

At about 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, Historic City News learned that deputies and members of the St Johns County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad had been dispatched to Flagler Hospital to examine a suspicious package.

Updating the press and public via their facebook, media relations officers posted updates during the hour-long investigation; giving the “all clear” at 10:19 p.m.

“In an abundance of caution, the waiting room for the Emergency Room has been evacuated,” a sheriff’s spokesman told Historic City News local reporters. “Our Bomb Squad team has responded and they are taking the necessary precautions; as well as investigating the package and its contents.”

Video recording of the measures employed to evaluate the threat from the suspicious package, were made by Fire Rescue personnel, bomb technicians, as well as citizens using their handheld communications devices.

At the conclusion of the operation, the announcement was made that after safely examining the suspicious package at Flagler Hospital, the bomb squad had determined that the contents were “benign”.

According to the incident report, there was no threat to public safety.

“Our response was in abundance of caution,” reporters were told. “We are glad all is safe and well.”
