Fallen officers honored during Tuesday ceremony

During the Tuesday morning ceremony, naming the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex, fallen law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty in St Johns County were also remembered.

Family and friends of law enforcement officers and family members of those who have died attended.

Undersheriff Joel Bolante read a list of the names of 13 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty in the county. Deputy Guy White is the first deputy believed to have died in the line of duty in the county. He was shot March 5, 1911, while investigating a disturbance on a passenger train. The last was Deputy James L. Anderson, who died on Jan. 14, 2010, in a vehicle crash while on his way to work.
