Historic City News has been informed that Flagler College and the City of St Augustine will screen an episode of the classic 1960’s television series, Route 66, as part of the “Concerts in the Plaza” series — opening with music by Lis and Lon Williamson with Rick Kuncicky on June 6.
The 60-minute episode titled “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you”, first aired February 14, 1964 and makes use of several St Augustine locations while featuring the Hotel Ponce de Leon. The classic program will be shown at 7:00 p.m. at the Plaza de la Constitucion.
“We are asking any locals who were used as extras in the episode to come to the screening to be recognized,” said Laura Stevenson Dumas, Director of College Relations at Flagler College. “If you would like to participate, please contact my office at 904-819-6205.”
In this episode, Tod and Linc, played by Martin Milner and Glenn Corbett, have come to St Augustine to work at the ornate hotel.
The cast included:
Martin Milner … Tod Stiles
Glenn Corbett … Linc Case
Soupy Sales … Harlan Livingston III
Bibi Osterwald … Mrs. Hunter
Roland Winters … Dr. Frank Hillman
Dawn Nickerson … Doree Hunter
Lee Meriwether … Jeanelle
Carol Ann Lewis … Cindy
Lorraine Rogers … Andrea
While waiting for the bridge, Stiles spots an apparently wealthy friend of his from his college days at Yale; Harland Livingston III, played by Soupy Sales. Stiles reconnects with Livingston and, during the episode, discovers the secret to a rather unorthodox way in which the idle playboy has accumulated his wealth and how he seeks out female companionship.
There is a particularly entertaining scene filmed in the main dining room of the hotel involving dessert. Route 66 is usually tackling heavy drama — this is a light-hearted travelogue episode.
Historic City News readers are invited to attend without charge. Remember to bring a folding chair and, although food is OK — so long as you clean up your mess, no alcoholic beverages are permitted.
