Melissa Lundquist, manager of the St Johns County Board of County Commissioners, has invited Historic City News readers who would like to participate on a local government advisory committee or volunteer board to take a more active role in county government by applying for one of a variety of current vacancies.

St Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies:
St. Johns County Public Safety Coordinating Council
Member: One
Purpose of Committee: Council shall meet for the purpose of assessing the population status of all detention or correctional facilities owned or contracted by the County, formulate recommendations to ensure capacities are not exceeded. The council shall assess availability of programs such as pretrial interventions, probation programs, work release programs, substance abuse programs, as well as the confinement status of the inmates within each facility. The council will develop comprehensive public safety plans and a comprehensive local re-entry plan.
Qualifications: Director of local substance abuse treatment program, or member designated by the director, to be appointed for a four-year term.
Meeting Schedule: This council meets once each quarter at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center, 4010 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine.

West Augustine CRA Nuisance Abatement Board
Members: Two
Alternates: Two
Purpose of Committee: To promote, protect, and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens and businesses within the West Augustine Community Revitalization Area (CRA). To conduct hearings regarding complaints of public nuisance within the West Augustine CRA.
Qualifications: County resident for at least one year, 18 years or older, residing within or operating a business within the West Augustine CRA.
Meeting Schedule: This board meets quarterly.

Recreation Advisory Board
Member: One
Purpose of Committee: An advisory committee that provides a sounding board for new ideas, assists in solving problems, acts as liaison when called upon to other governmental bodies, represents the Recreation and Parks Department’s posture on sensitive issues in the public arena, and assists in the establishment and carrying out of goals and objectives and budget preparation to provide leisure time programs and facilities.
Qualifications: Seeking representation from County Commission District 4.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on the first Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the Board of County Commissioners Executive Board Room, 500 San Sebastian View.

Cultural Resource Review Board
Members: Four
Purpose of Committee: Advise the Board of County Commissioners regarding cultural, architectural, archaeological, and historical resources of St. Johns County; and to identify, evaluate, document, designate, and protect these resources.
Qualifications: Seeking appointees qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in the preservation of the County’s cultural resources and those that have practical and professional experience in one or more of the following fields: archaeology, architecture, architectural history, curation or conservation, planning, professional engineering, real estate, history, historic preservation, or related disciplines. Seeks representation from County Commission Districts 1 and 4.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the first Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the Board of County Commissioners Executive Conference Room, 500 San Sebastian View.

Architectural Review Committee
Members: Three
Purpose of Committee: Ensure enhanced property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra/Palm Valley Overlay Districts in line with the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.
Qualifications: Seeking one member residing in the Coastal Corridor Overlay District, one member residing in the Ponte Vedra Zoning District, and one member who is currently, or has been a registered architect. Members must be registered voters in St. Johns County.
Meeting Schedule: This committee meets every fourth Wednesday of each month from 5–8:30 p.m. in the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

Mid-Anastasia Island Design Review Board
Members: Two
Alternates: Two
Purpose of Committee: Determine compliance with Part 3.08.07–3.08.09 of the Land Development Code regarding signage requirements, design review guidelines, and design elements/materials within the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District.
Qualifications: Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in design, architecture or history of the Mid-Anastasia community. Members shall reside within the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month from 2–5 p.m. in the Anastasia Island Branch Library.

South Anastasia Design Review Board
Members: Two
Alternates: Two
Purpose of Committee: Develop submittal requirements and review procedures in accordance with Sections 3.07.04-3.07.14 of the Land Development Code to determine compliance in regards to development standards and criteria, minimum yard requirements, buffers, fences and walls, parking, signage, landscape criteria, architectural design standards, design elements and materials, and lighting criteria.
Qualifications: Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in design, architecture or history of the South Anastasia community. Members shall reside within the South Anastasia Overlay District.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 2:30 p.m. in the Southeast Branch Library.
Application Submission Deadline: November 25, 2013
North Coastal Corridor Overlay District Design Review Board
Member: One
Purpose of Committee: Enhance property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the North Coastal Overlay District and Vilano Beach Town Center with the intent of accomplishing the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.
Qualifications: Appointees shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in design, architecture or history of the North Coastal
Overlay community of the area encompassing the North Coastal Corridor Overlay District. Prefer a registered architect.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Wednesday of each month from 3–5 p.m. in the South Ponte Vedra Civic Association Building.
