Historic City News was informed by the Florida Department of Transportation that settlement of the muck underneath the roadway at the Cunningham Creek Bridge, on SR-13 in St Johns County, has caused damages set to be repaired beginning Thursday, January 3.
The repair project includes placing grout underneath the southbound travel lanes and sidewalk at the bridge. In order to prevent settlement in the travel lanes and on the sidewalk in the future, soil-stabilizing columns are drilled into the ground to provide support.
A 24-hour lane closure is scheduled to be in place for three weeks for southbound SR-13 while the columns are installed. Due to noise and vibrations, no pavement drilling is allowed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Daytime and possible nighttime lane closures are allowed when the 24-hour lane closure is not in place. However, southbound lane closures are not allowed Monday through Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday. Northbound lane closures are not allowed Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m. and from 7:30 p.m. Friday to 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Construction also includes removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt in both directions, reconstructing curb and sidewalk along the southbound travel lanes and replacing the bridge joints.
The Florida Department of Transportation is overseeing the project and hired Duval Asphalt Products, Inc. of Jacksonville to complete the work in approximately two months at a cost of $640,857.
