DeSantis named vice-chair of job creation subcommittee

After proving himself a champion for smarter, leaner and more accountable government, Congressman Ron DeSantis reported to Historic City News that he has been named Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs.

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s Chairman, Darrell Issa, and Subcommittee Chairman, Jim Jordan, announced DeSantis’ appointment as the Subcommittee’s Vice-Chairman today.

“No priority ranks higher for me than getting our fiscal house in order, and that starts with slashing government waste and eliminating job-killing regulations,” Representative DeSantis told Historic City News reporters in St Augustine. “As our economy continues struggling to recover, I look forward to helping rid the federal government of unnecessary obstacles to economic prosperity.”

DeSantis’ first bill, which passed the US House in a bipartisan vote, calls for extending a federal pay freeze throughout the entire year — including salaries for Members of Congress.

“The Economic Growth Subcommittee is charged with curbing excessive government spending and overreaching regulation, which is hurting American job creators,” Committee Chairman, Issa told reporters. “Representative DeSantis has shown a commitment to this work and demonstrated a talent for building the consensus needed to move legislative reforms forward.”

A believer in leading by example, Rep. DeSantis has refused to take the generous pension and health care plans offered to Members of Congress.

“I’m pleased to have Representative DeSantis on board to lend his proven leadership to the work of our Subcommittee,” added Subcommittee Chairman Jordan. “His experience will be a great asset to us as we continue to investigate government spending, regulations and protect the American taxpayer.”

Rep. DeSantis has also put forward bipartisan legislation to sequester pay for Members of Congress.
