Neighborhood Services Division Commander named

Flagler Sheriff James L. Manfre announced to Historic City News today that he has selected Paul Bovino to fill the position of Commander of the “Neighborhood Services Division” — the position left vacant by Commander David O’Brien when he retired March 8.

Bovino’s promotion takes effect immediately; the 39-year-old Commander joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1996.

“Paul has an extensive law enforcement background and has proven leadership qualities that I think will greatly benefit this agency,” said Sheriff Manfre.

Bovino is a graduate of Flagler Palm Coast High School and received his law enforcement training through the St Augustine Vocational-Technical Center.

In 2001, he was promoted to Deputy First Class and created the agency’s first Special Weapons and Tactics Team in that same year. He received a promotion to the rank of Corporal in 2003 and then to Sergeant the following year.

In 2007 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 2011 he was promoted again, this time to the rank of Captain.

In 2012, he was selected as the Executive Commander of “Law Enforcement Services”.

“I appreciate the Sheriff’s confidence in my ability,” said Commander Bovino. “I look forward to serving the community in my new position.”

As Commander of the “Neighborhood Services Division” he will report directly to Undersheriff Rick Staly and have command over road patrol deputies — the largest division within the sheriff’s office.

Commander Bovino will retain overall responsibility of the FCSO SWAT Team
