Drugs in Roos-Leonardi contributed to fatal crash

Historic City News reported the tragic Christmas evening crash on Anastasia Island that claimed the lives of 25-year-old Trevor Austin Leonardi and his wife, 28-year-old Jennifer Ann Roos-Leonardi; and now, police have released toxicology reports that confirm the presence of drugs in their blood streams which contributed to the fatal crash.

According to St Augustine Police reports of the collision, at about 5:30 p.m. December 25, the newlywed Leonardi’s were traveling northbound on SR-A1A. When they reached State Park Road at Red Cox Road, Trevor Leonardi lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into a large oak tree in front of St Augustine Fire Station #2.

Dymel, DuPont’s brand name for Difluoroethane, is a propellant found in everyday aerosol products like “Dust Off” — a product used to clean computer keyboards. When inhaled, the chemical causes a euphoric feeling.

The driver of the 2007 Black Nissan Titan, Trevor Leonardi, was found to have “heavy concentrations” of the substance in his system at autopsy. Also discovered, was Alprazolam; the most prescribed and misused benzodiazepine on the retail market. Xanax, the brand name of Alprazolam, has sedative properties which is why it is routinely prescribed for anxiety disorders.

According to the report from 23rd District Medical Examiner Dr Predag Bulic, in addition to a heavy concentration of Difluoroethane, toxicology screening detected phentermine and norpseudoephedrine, stimulants that are similar to amphetamine, benzodiazepines and cannabinoids in the passenger, Jennifer Leonardi.
