Local Resident Specials

St Johns County residents with valid identification are always admitted free of charge to the Oldest House, the Lightner Museum, the Fountain of Youth (special events excluded), the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, City Walks History Mystery Murder Evening Tour and the Hotel Ponce de Leon Legacy Tours at Flagler College. The daily tours and wine tastings at the San Sebastian Winery are free to everyone. Also, admission is free to everyone at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, St Photios Chapel, the Pena-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum. Many other local attractions offer discounted admissions to St Johns County residents with valid identification.

New World in the Eyes of Explorers Exhibit – This intriguing exhibit of images of the New World and its indigenous peoples and animals provide a fascinating look at the first encounter between the peoples of the Old World and the New World – an epic event that changed the world forever. Art Dorks Rise’ Art Exhibit at space:eight gallery – ‘Art Dorks Rise’ is a group show of 30 internationally-acclaimed artists exhibiting 30 pieces of original work. The show runs through November 30. 228 West King St., St. Augustine. 904-829-2838 www.spaceeight.com

Viva Florida Exhibit at the St. Augustine Art Association – Florida’s 500th Anniversary year concludes with this popular exhibition at the St. Augustine Art Association Gallery. The exhibited works celebrate the sights and structures, beaches and byways, flora and fauna, history and happenings that are uniquely Florida. Holiday Shoppes and Creations -The popular Holiday Shoppes return to the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach — and this year holiday craft workshops and classes are included in a new week-long format! Monday through Wednesday, classes and workshops focusing on homemade decorations and gift ideas will be conducted. Hotel Ponce de Leon 125th Anniversary Community Lecture – Dr. Michele Gregoire presents a lecture titled “Community Intersections: Florida School for the Deaf and Blind’s Music Education Programs and the Hotel Ponce de Leon, 1891 – 1916.” The presentation is part of the commemorative events celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the opening of Henry Flagler’s Ponce de Leon Hotel and takes place at 10 a.m. in the Flagler Room at the former Hotel Ponce De Leon, now Flagler College. St. Augustine Half Marathon Weekend – Put on your running shoes and participate in a foot-race that suits your running level. On Saturday, the EXPO and packet pick up opens at Francis Field. The St Augustine’s Kids Race starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Then on Sunday at 7 a.m., the St. Augustine Half Marathon begins; 7:05 a.m. the 10K Run starts; and 7:10 a.m. St. Augustine 5K Family Run begins. Award Ceremonies follow. Arts and Crafts Festival at St. Augustine Beach Pier – A seaside display of fine art and crafts along with live music and lots of great food! Photography Challenge Event – Photographers, from beginners to professionals, compete to take the best photo at three designated locations within Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. Maps to the featured locations can be obtained from the Ranger Station or from volunteers in the main parking lot. Each month, park volunteers will select the winning photo, which will then be displayed at the Visitors Information Center kiosk and the park’s gift shop. There is no cost to compete. Tolomato Cemetery Guided Tour – The Tolomato Cemetery is the oldest extant planned cemetery in Florida with graves from the First Spanish Period (1565-1763). Visitor access is limited to the 3rd Saturday of each month when docents provide guided tours. Admission is free and donations are encouraged. Civil Rights & Black Heritage Tour – St. Augustine Black Heritage Tours Inc. will offer a FREE historic walking tour at 5 p.m. Learn about St. Augustine’s historic role in Black History and events leading up to the Civil Rights act of 1964. Discover the Birds of Anastasia – Led by an Anastasia State Park volunteer, this fun and informative walk is open to participants of all birding levels. From 8:30-10:30 a.m., observe a diverse variety of shore birds, marsh birds, and hammock birds by walking the beach, boardwalks, nature trails, and other areas.
