The St Johns Cultural Council announced to Historic City News today that they will hold one final workshop to assist not-for-profit organizations in applying for funding support for special events aimed at attracting visitors to St Johns County.
Last year, the Tourist Development Council awarded $500,000 in financial support for special events from the four percent tax collected by the county on short-term accommodation rentals.
“At least one representative from groups who will apply for Tourist Development Tax funding must attend the workshop,” Cultural Council executive director Andy Witt told reporters. “Funding applications from groups not represented at the workshop will be disqualified.”
The purpose of the mandatory workshop is to provide a detailed review of the application funding guidelines. Chapter 125.0104 F.S. allows for use of these funds – paid by visitors – for special events and cultural programming as a means of marketing the destination to tourists.
