Flagler County fallen officers honored

Lieutenant Phil Reynolds laid a rose in memory of all fallen law enforcement officers during a ceremony yesterday that honored fellow officers who lost their lives in the line-of-duty while serving the local community in Flagler County.

Sheriff James L. Manfre hosted the county’s “Law Enforcement Memorial Service” as a prelude to “National Police Week” that begins Sunday. The service took place at the Sheriff’s Operations Center in Bunnell. Nationally, “Peace Officers Memorial Day” will be observed next Wednesday, May 15.

“If you have any problem recognizing a law enforcement officer, they are the ones running towards trouble when everyone else is running away,” Sheriff Manfre told the audience; suggesting that the community take a moment in the coming week to reflect on the job local law enforcement officers do each day in Flagler County. “Thank you to all past and present officers and deputies for your dedication to a job that is so integral to our way of life.”

The ceremony was attended by representatives from all three law enforcement agencies in Flagler County as well as the State Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit, as well as elected representatives from the cities and the county, and the families of the three fallen officers who were honored during the ceremony.
