In addition to our headliners QuinTango, this Sunday May 12, and Benny Goodman May 14, Romanza Festivale presents over 100 events in 10 days. A good number of those are Heritage events, and a many of those are concentrated around Saturday May 18.
Come relive The Nation’s Oldest City’s history and heritage during in the 10-day-long Romanza Festivale (May 10-19) in St Augustine, FL.
Saturday, May 18 in particular, is packed with Heritage events and other exciting attractions.
The highlight of the day is a Changing of the Guard Ceremony by the Spanish 1740 St Augustine Garrison at the Governor’s House in the Plaza de la Constitution. Activity begins at 5:00 p.m. when Spanish soldiers begin to muster along St George Street. At approximately 5:45, a group at the City Gates will march to meet an earlier group in the city plaza. At 6:00, a changing of the guard ceremony, including a volley of musket fire, will take place, featuring a presentation about military arts and the nature and purpose of the changing of the guard
That evening from 7:30 PM – 9:00, the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will host an evening candlelight interpretive tour of the oldest stone fortification in the United States. 1740 Spanish soldados and distaff will demonstrate military arts and interface with visiting guests.
And don’t miss the Romanza Art Festival on Cuna Street all day, plus more than 20 other Festivale events, exhibits and tours that Saturday. Not to mention over 100 over the whole week!
Numerous other Heritage events throughout the 10-day Festivale are hosted by Historic Florida Militia, Maritime Heritage Foundation, National Park Service – Castillo San Marcos National Monument, Tour St Augustine & City Walks, St Augustine Historic Tours and others, including:
