Craig Funeral Home, Crematory and Memorial Park, announced to Historic City News this morning that they will be making the funeral arrangements for the family of former St Augustine Beach Mayor and long-time St Augustine attorney, George M. McClure; who died yesterday at the Bailey Family Center for Caring.
Although all the details are not yet completed, there is a memorial service planned at Flagler Memorial Presbyterian Church.
George Morris McClure was born October 2, 1951 in Indiana. He received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a law degree from the University of Florida. He is the founding partner in the local law firm McClure Bloodworth P.L., and was formerly General Counsel to the St Augustine – St Johns County Airport Authority.
In June, 2012, McClure was appointed by Governor Rick Scott to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind. His father, William J. McClure, was president of the school from 1967 to 1981. George was co-founder and board member, of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired Service Center of St Johns County.
He has served as a member of the board, and Chairman, for Flagler Hospital since 1988, as well as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida. He will also be missed from the board of St Augustine Lighthouse and Museum.
In addition to his many accomplishments, he held elected office as a commissioner, and one-time mayor, of the City of St Augustine Beach from 1980 to 1984.
