Letter: Imagine life without the IRS
Derek Hankerson

Dear Editor:
Imagine life without the Internal Revenue Service.
Abuse by the IRS has been going on for almost 80 years; but, if the IRS were to be abolished, there would be no more targeting of conservative groups, individuals or businesses. No more complicated tax forms, individual audits, or intrusive federal bureaucracy.
The Founders saw the dangers in direct taxation, which is why they prohibited it when they wrote the Constitution. The latest IRS scandal is a wakeup call and we now know the 16th Amendment was a mistake.
The income tax gives the federal government more information about, and power over, citizens than is compatible with freedom. The only permanent solution to the problem of IRS abuse is to abolish the IRS and inaugurate the Fair Tax.
On Monday, June 24th, at 4:00 p.m. until 5:15 p.m., join us at Memorial Bridge near the Clock Tower in Palatka for an “Abolish the IRS” sign wave. Bring your homemade signs, American flags, Gadsden flags, and wear your Tea Party t-shirts.
Afterwards, we will go to the American Legion and enjoy some fellowship and dinner before our regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. The Legion Canteen will be open from 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. and is located at 316 Osceola Street in Palatka.
Our Guest Speaker will be Paul Livingston, Director, Northeast Florida Fair Tax. He will explain how the current federal income tax system is clearly broken — unfair, overly complex, and almost impossible for most Americans to understand. Please make plans to attend, everyone is welcome.
