Letter to Editor pays off for Michigan couple

Posted on 02/21/201305/19/2013 By Historic City News

400-DOLYAKA couple planning their September wedding in St Augustine, who first reported their plight to Historic City News after the San Marco Avenue Howard Johnson refused to honor a block of reserved rooms for family and friends in the wedding party, is receiving a few extra gifts for their shower — thanks to members of the St Augustine Attractions Association.

Lisa Dolyak and Trey Gillette are receiving a package of tickets and gift items with a combined value of over $600.

“I’m speechless and so touched by the outpouring of support I’ve received,” Dolyak said when contacted yesterday. “This is why I love St Augustine and the people there.”

The difficulties reported with their hotel reservations by Historic City News through a “Letter to the Editor” published February 13, 2013, have since been resolved.

“St Augustine is a friendly, welcoming place and our members stepped up to ensure that Ms. Dolyak’s group will experience the first class hospitality of our tourism community,” said John Stavely, president of the Attractions Association.

In addition to the St. Augustine Attractions Association, the expression of hospitality was the combined effort of the St Augustine, Ponte Vedra and the Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau and William Jones’ Old City Weddings.

Among the donated items are tickets to the Alligator Farm Zoological Park, the Colonial Quarter, the Ghost Train tour, Old Florida Museum, the Pirate and Treasure Museum, the Red Train Trolley, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum, Saint Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, gifts from Samsonite at St. Augustine Premium Outlets, tickets to the Spanish Military Hospital Museum, Tour St. Augustine and City Walks, and Villa Zorayda.
