Local high school student arrested on campus with firearm

Youth Resource deputies responded to a report of a student with a firearm on the St Augustine High School campus this afternoon, according to information obtained by Historic City News local reporters.

A tip from another student to a faculty member that a classmate was “despondent” and believed to have a hand gun in their backpack, led to the arrest of one juvenile on felony weapons charges; possession of a firearm on a school campus.

The student was immediately located and contacted by the Youth Resource deputies; at which time it was confirmed that the juvenile did in fact have a gun in a bag, under a desk. The firearm was never displayed nor was any threat made to other students or staff, according to the investigator’s report.

The juvenile was transported to the St Johns County Jail without further incident.

The investigation is continuing.
