Executive Director Edward R Wuellner reported to Historic City News that newly elected airport authority members, local attorney Matt Mercer, and re-elected member, Carl Youman, were administered the oath of office during the January 14th meeting of the St Augustine – St Johns County Airport Authority Board.
Authority legal counsel, Douglas Burnett, administered the oath to each member as they begin their new four-year terms.
Matt Mercer brings legal and both commercial and general aviation insight in his new role on the Airport Authority. Mercer is a local small business owner and general aviation enthusiast. Mercer graduated from Georgia Southern University and earned a law degree from the University of Louisville. In addition to his regular Authority Member duties, Mercer will serve as the liaison to the St Johns County Aerospace Academy Advisory Board.
Carl Youman, first elected to the Authority Board for a term beginning in 2009, ran unopposed in 2012 for re-election to a second term on the Authority. Youman also begins his second annual term as Authority Chairman and will continue to serve as one of the county’s representatives on the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization.
Outgoing board member James S Werter was recognized as he concluded his four-year term on the Authority. Youman, in his capacity as Chairman of the Airport Authority, thanked Werter for his numerous contributions and service to the Citizens of St Johns County.

The members of the St. Augustine – St. Johns County Airport Authority are elected by the citizens of St. Johns County and serve without remuneration. The Airport Authority is chartered by the Florida Legislature for the purpose of operating and developing the Northeast Florida Regional Airport on behalf of the citizens of St. Johns County.
