US Customs and Border Protection informed Historic City News local reporters that brick-shaped packages of cocaine washed onshore in the Crescent Beach area this week. Their street value has been estimated at $2.97 million.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration said Wednesday that 16 brick-shaped packages of what was believed to be cocaine washed up along the St Johns County shoreline. The packages are already on their way to a DEA lab for testing.
“The drugs field-tested positive for cocaine,” Customs spokesman Michael Friel told reporters. “The value of the suspected cocaine is based on weight — using street value data provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration.”
Packages were found in at least three locations by agents working with the Jacksonville Air and Marine Branch. Approximately 40 pounds of the suspected cocaine was recovered using a boat and helicopter to facilitate the search.
The investigation is continuing.
