More than 40 arrests in methamphetamine investigation

During a press conference called this afternoon, St Johns County Sheriff’s detectives told Historic City News that over the past two days, investigators have arrested 43 suspects for conspiracy to produce methamphetamine or conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

For the past year and a half, detectives, as well as agents with the US Drug Enforcement Administration, have diligently monitored the activity of suspects associated with the production and distribution of methamphetamine.

As dangerous, clandestine methamphetamine labs have become increasingly prevalent in the community, detectives determined that they had to take a proactive enforcement stance.

With the assistance from pharmaceutical logs obtained from local drug stores, investigators were able to identify people who were buying larger than normal amounts of Pseudoephedrine — a key ingredient in the production of methamphetamine.

During the course of the two day operation detectives coordinated with representatives from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, St Augustine Police Department, St Augustine Beach Police Department, and St Johns County Fire-Rescue in order to locate and arrest those involved in the illegal manufacturing operations.

Potential methamphetamine labs were identified at the following St Johns County locations:

5031 Avenue B, St Augustine
1419 San Juline Circle, St Augustine
2599 A1A South, St Augustine

Investigators from the office of State Attorney R. J. Larizza, played a vital role in these cases. Although arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing.
