Executive Director Edward R. Wuellner reported to Historic City News from Northeast Florida Regional Airport at St Augustine that a Mooney single-engine plane has crash landed on Runway 13.
Wuellner told reporters that this afternoon’s crash appears to have been an equipment failure, as witnesses say the airplane failed to lower his landing gear.
“We can’t get in to relocate the aircraft just yet,” Wuellner said. “We have notified the Federal Aviation Administration of the incident and awaiting permission to proceed.”
Reports indicate that the airplane took a hard landing and skid along the tarmac, where it remains. The plane’s propeller was severely damaged, although the pilot was uninjured.
