Pirate arrested for assault with sword

Historic City News was informed that a 55-year-old pirate, Scott Franklyn Dixon, who resides at 6486 Central Avenue, Apt D, in St Petersburg, was sent home from jail Sunday, less his sword, after being arrested at the Historic Inn on Anastasia Boulevard and charged by St Augustine Police with aggravated assault.

According to records at the St Johns County Detention Facility, Dixon posted $5,000 bond at 9:17 p.m. Saturday evening, and was released. He was in town attending last weekend’s Pirate Gathering, according to the incident report.

In other police news, Local Heroes reported that someone damaged toilets in both the men’s room and the ladies’ room of the bar located at 11 Spanish Street. At this time, there are no leads but the investigation is continuing. The damage was not estimated in a daily update received by Historic City News from police spokesman, Mark Samson.

A student from Flagler College reported that her ex-boyfriend has been calling and texting her from New York. She feels he is harassing her because she broke up with him last summer. No charges have been filed.

Police received a report from a local resident that an impostor attempted to open a line of credit in his name with an out-of-town credit card company. The apparent identity theft victim told officers that he subscribes to a service that alerts him when someone obtains a copy of his credit bureau report. Armed with that information, the victim was able to contact the credit card company and stop them from opening the fraudulent account. An investigation is ongoing to determine who is responsible for making the application.

A local postal worker called police to report that, once again, someone placed a large tack under one of her tires. This is not the first time this has occurred, Samson told reporters — the letter carrier has had to repair several tires in the past.

Friday before 4:00 p.m., police officers arrested 25-year-old Andrew Stephen Wright and charged him with assault with a weapon; a third-degree felony. Wright, who resides at 20 De Soto Place, Unit 4, in St Augustine, was released Saturday at 12:20 p.m. after posting a $10,000 appearance bond. A check of the booking logs reveals that Wright has been arrested and booked on other charges in the St Johns County jail; at least twice before.

The St Augustine Police Department and St Johns County Sheriff’s Office share the cost of several spaces at St Francis House; available for law enforcement officers when having to relocate sober, non-criminal vagrants. Police responded to a call of a homeless woman sleeping on public property at 75 King Street this week and utilized one of those spaces to provide emergency shelter for her. No trespass or other charges were filed.

In an unrelated incident, a transient staying at St Francis House, located at 70 Washington Street, reported his laptop computer has been stolen. A report was filed by police, but there are no active leads in the investigation.

A resident at 45 John Street in St Augustine reported that his GPS device and cash went missing from his unlocked vehicle; and, at 26 Phillips Street, the resident reported his sunglasses and cigarettes had been taken from his unlocked vehicle. Police have no leads in either theft.

Following up on a tip, St Augustine Police located and arrested 28-year-old Eric Stephen Comerford yesterday morning at 39207 Harbour Vista Circle, Apt 39 on Anastasia Island.

Comerford was the subject of an out-of-county felony warrant and two warrants for failure to appear. He remains in custody in the St Johns County Detention Facility at the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex today, without bond.

Greg Owens was arrested by city police on an outstanding warrant from St Johns County.

A patron at The Standard night club, located at 200 Anastasia Boulevard in St Augustine, reported their IPhone, valued at $200, was taken over the weekend.

Brandon McCracken of Tracy, California was arrested for battery at 70 Hypolita Street.

Michael Wooleyhan, who resides on North First Street in St Augustine was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Employees at Tedi’s Ice Cream, located at 65 St George Street, reported that the second window at their place of business had been broken within the past two weeks. No entry was made either time, according to Samson.

City employees reported a broken bathroom stall door at the Visitors Information Center.

Campers at two separate campsites within the Anastasia State Park campgrounds reported thefts this week. At the first campsite, a bicycle valued at $300 was reported stolen. The second camper reported that a bicycle valued at about $100 and IPad valued at about $479 were stolen. A birth certificate was also missing and assumed stolen from the second campsite.

A guest at the Historic Inn, located at 107 Anastasia Boulevard, reported to police that someone entered his room and stole a cell phone, valued at $360, and two Native American rings valued at $100.

A resident of Magnolia Drive in St Augustine reported that her Cadillac Escalade was keyed — probably while parked at the Elks Lodge on A1A South.

An employee at “Best Gift Ever” at 162 St George Street reported that someone stole his IPhone while he was helping a customer in the store. The phone has been entered into NCIC.

A Flagler College student reported that her bicycle, valued at $90, was stolen from the Proctor Library on Sevilla Street.

Police arrested Abner Hatfield, after he turned himself in at the police station; claiming to be a fugitive from Monroe County. The outstanding arrest warrant was verified and Hatfield was transported to the St Johns County Detention Facility.

When the store clerk at Florida Cash and Pawn did a records check before selling 35-year-old St Augustine resident Amanda Carol Freeman a handgun, police were tipped off to two outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was taken into custody at the pawn shop, booked, and released within three hours after posting $1,000 on the two charges.

A customer at the Community First Credit Union, 3581 North Ponce de Leon Boulevard reported to a patrolling officer that someone had broken the screen on the ATM at the credit union which was closed at the time.
