In a scheme that abused the trust of an elderly Ponte Vedra Beach man by his caregiver, St Johns County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw informed local Historic City News reporters that an arrest has been made after detectives found that more than $100,000 in exploited property.
Detective Plaugher’s report indicated that Wayne Joseph Dziadul, a 68-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach man, who resides at 100 Bermuda Bay Circle #108, obtained assets from the victim worth over $100,000 by deception. He is charged with exploitation of the elderly, a first-degree felony, and he remains in custody in lieu of a $25,000 appearance bond.
According to Kelshaw, the Sheriff’s Office received a report in August that a 91-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach man and his wife, who live on Governor’s Road, discovered a significant amount of jewelry missing from their home. Among the items taken were several gold watches, assorted rare jewelry items, old currency and coins.
While searching a database of items recently placed into pawn, Detective Cheth Plaugher discovered Dziadul’s name. Dziadul had befriended the victim and had access to his residence as a caretaker.
On numerous dates between March and August of 2012, Dziadul pawned items for cash that matched items from the victim’s list of missing items.
