Historic City News readers can cast their vote, now through September 30, while two hundred national historic landmarks compete for the title “8th Wonder of the World” — one of the nominees is our own historic Hotel Ponce de Leon; that once attracted the wealthy and the elite from presidents to movie stars and now is home to Flagler College.
With its Spanish Renaissance Revival style architecture, the Hotel Ponce de Leon opened its doors on January 12, 1888, to become one of the grandest resort hotels of its day. The lavish decorations included 79 stained glass windows crafted by Louis Comfort Tiffany, murals by George Maynard as well as steam power and electricity designed by Thomas Edison.

The landmark with the most votes will be featured in a national TV segment and receive a media push from VirtualTourist — a travel research website that is part of the TripAdvisor Media Group.
