Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that 75-year-old Romildo “Ray” Gottuso, who lived at 68 Dolphin Boulevard in Ponte Vedra Beach, died at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center from injuries sustained in a single-car collision on Friday, March 29th.
According to the crash report, the collision occurred at 6:20 a.m. in the 3100 block of South Ponte Vedra Boulevard as the victim was driving southbound in his 2005 Mazda pickup truck and left the roadway.
Traffic Homicide Investigators who responded to the original call last month say that the driver struck a mailbox along SR-A1A and over-corrected two times before flipping the truck onto its side.
The victim was partially ejected from the vehicle; he was taken by air ambulance to the Trauma Unit of Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.
Kelshaw told reporters that the traffic homicide investigation is continuing into the cause of the crash.
