Michael Gold, editor of Historic City News, announced today that an agreement has been reached with local radio landmark, WFOY Newstalk 1240, to become their Internet news partner.
WFOY 1240 AM has been serving St Johns County residents and businesses for 75 years; the strategic partnership will become more visible to readers and listeners as the station rolls out their FM simulcast in the coming weeks and WFOY completes the launch of its updated news and information website.
Kris Phillips, President of Phillips Broadcasting, told reporters today that becoming the Broadcast news partner to Historic City News in St Augustine is a smart move at the right time.
“The addition of WFOY to the FM dial will mean a significant boost in our audience,” Phillips said. “The technologies supported by Historic City News will take us even further by introducing us to a growing audience of facebook, twitter, and other social media subscribers over the Internet.”
Gold, who began the daily Internet news publication as a periodic newsletter on March 18, 2000, said that he has been waiting for the right opportunity for smart growth to present itself — now, he says, it has.
“Historic City News has a daily audience in the thousands — with over 7,000 subscribers to our Weekday Issue, over 11,000 registered website users, and thousands more on our social media properties,” Gold said. “WFOY listeners are looking for honest local news reporting that doesn’t candy-coat the truth — they’ll feel very much at home with us.”
