Re-enactment at Fort Mose for Black History Month

Park Service Specialist Terri Newmans announced to Historic City News that during February, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Mose Historic State Park will celebrate Black History Month by reenacting the founding of the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in what is now the United States.

Re-enactors in period clothing will tell the story of the founding of Fort Mose on February 9, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In addition, Florida Living History Inc. will perform Colonial Spanish military drills and provide demonstrations of musket and cannon firing throughout the day.

The event will also include a cooking demonstration, an exhibit on Native Indians and various exhibits, performances and food vendors.

The park is located at 15 Fort Mose Trail in St Augustine. Museum entry fee is $2.00 per person.
