Historic City News received word that, last night, St Johns County Fire Rescue and Sheriff’s deputies were able to coordinate the safe recovery of five trapped residents from a multi-family residential structure located at 100 Fairway Park Boulevard in Ponte Vedra Beach.
A call to E-911 dispatchers indicated that two parents and their three small children were trapped on the second floor of the building after a fire broke out on the front porch.
The home was fully involved in fire with flames through the roof by the time emergency medical personnel arrived. According to officials, the front door was the only way in or out of the residence.
“Deputy Lay and Sergeant Tarbert were able to communicate with the family,” a sheriff’s spokesman told reporters. “The adults dropped children into the arms of deputies waiting below.” Additional deputies responding to the scene assisted with the children.
According to the incident report, although the fire destroyed the unit that contained several condominiums, no one was injured in the fire which started around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
