St Johns County Sheriff David Shoar informed Historic City News that his office has received several calls reporting that residents have been solicited for donations while passing themselves off as Sheriff’s Office representatives.
According to the incident reports provided, the caller states that they are working with the Sheriff’s Office to raise money to help children.
“We do not call residents in St Johns County to solicit funds over the telephone,” Shoar said.
In at least one of the calls, the victim reported that the caller used aggressive tactics to pressure them into making a donation.
Victims have not reported actually giving any money to the callers.
Sheriff’s spokesman, Chuck Mulligan told Historic City News that detectives have received information including telephone numbers of the callers. That information is being researched to determine who has been making the phone calls.
