Driver in crash threatens to “kill and blow people up”
The Florida Highway Patrol is wrapping up their crash investigation at SR-16 and CR-208 that occurred at about 1:40 p.m.
After the trooper’s arrival, one of the driver’s involved made a break and ran from officers, but was apprehended not far from the scene. He resisted the trooper and St. Johns deputy already at the scene. Sheriff’s Commander Chuck Mulligan told Historic City News that the man made threats to kill and blow people up after being involved in a traffic crash.
At about 3:00 p.m. the roadway was shut down in both directions. The St. Johns County Bomb squad assisted in searching the crashed car for an incendiary device.
Around 7:00 p.m. Saturday, the bomb squad finally gave the “all clear” and the driver, 48-year-old Victor Ruben Davis-Calderon, whose address is currently unverified, was in custody.
Law enforcement officials have reported that Calderon was born in the Republic of Guatemala and will be facing charges including making terrorist threats. Federal agents are now involved to determine the man’s legal status. The passenger in the vehicle will likely not face any charges.
Traffic was slowed on I-95 for about four hours.
