Historic City News has been informed that resurfacing of a two-mile section of SR-A1A, just north of Mickler Road in Ponte Vedra Beach, and constructing a new sidewalk along the east side of the road, between Corona Road and Solana Road, begins January 3.
The resurfacing project includes adding five-foot shoulders, designating bicycle lanes and adding left turn lanes at Cornerstone Drive, A1A Self Storage and the driveway to the Sherwin Williams shopping plaza. It also includes extending drainage pipes beneath the roadway, repairing damaged portions of existing sidewalk and adding wheelchair accessible ramps at side street intersections.
Sidewalk construction extends the existing sidewalk on the east side of SR-A1A and includes minor drainage work. Both projects should be complete in spring 2013.
Lane closures are scheduled after 8:30 a.m. for the resurfacing project and only northbound lane closures are required for the new sidewalk construction between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Duval Asphalt Inc., of Jacksonville will work on the resurfacing project at a cost of $1.5 million. CDM Contracting Inc., of Lake Butler will construct the new sidewalk for $242,000. The Florida Department of Transportation is overseeing both projects.
