Historic City News was contacted by the St Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation to invite our readers to attend its inaugural “St Augustine Maritime Heritage Festival” on Saturday and Sunday, October 26th and 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Proceeds from this event will fund maritime educational programs and the completion of the Chalupa being built at the Fountain of Youth that will be launched as part of St Augustine’s 450 Commemoration in 2015.
This family friendly event includes live entertainment with Falling Bones and Those Guys, the quick and dirty boat building competition and race, a bartending challenge, food vendors, educational exhibits, and craft vendors.
The Festival will be held on the grounds of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, located at 11 Magnolia Avenue in St Augustine.
Other activities include the “Ponce de Leon Paddle Battle”, book signings and lecturers, model boats, “astillero de perro” — a dog agility contest, a rubber duck race, kid’s zone with games, and a bounce house.
Friday night there will be a VIP-sponsor reception, a beer-wine tent, and Saturday night, don’t miss “Johnny Barnes Minorcan chowder and paleo party” with the bilge rats.
The St Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2010 to bring awareness to the rich maritime history of St Augustine and Florida’s First Coast This is a Viva Florida 500 Sanctioned Event with the support of the St Augustine Lighthouse, the St Augustine Yacht Club, the City of St Augustine, the Tourist Development Council and the Fountain of Youth.
