About 3 years ago, St Augustine residents Connie May Fowler and her husband Bill Hinson, opened White Peony; a boutique clothing shop focused on American artisan and global fair trade goods. Nearly all of the clothes were American made and those that were not were made by fair trade artisans, local designers, and artists.
Professionally, Fowler is an award winning novelist, memoirist, and screenwriter who travels the country, speaking about writing, domestic violence, and child abuse — among many other topics.
“About six months ago, they closed their retail store with plans to offer their merchandise online,” Betty Griffin House Community Awareness Coordinator, Kim Brumfield, told Historic City News. “It was later decided that they had other goals and dreams, including book projects and traveling.”
As Fowler and Hinson prepare to set out on the next chapter in their lives, Brumfield says that all of White Peony’s remaining clothing, fixtures, jewelry and merchandise have been donated to Betty Griffin House.
These items, including beautifully made women’s clothing, some little girl dresses, art work, and other new merchandise, will be available for purchase after Thanksgiving at our thrift shoppe located at 1961 SR-A1A, at the corner of SR-312, Brumfield reported.
Betty Griffin House is a private, nonprofit agency, providing emergency shelter to abused women, men, and their minor children.
