The National Park Service reminds Historic City News readers in St Augustine that the career of soldados often began at 15 years of age.
They were subjected to constant drilling; designed to build up confidence and muscle memory that would be put to the test while they defended the presidio in battle.
You can still see these drills take place at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Although the park is open seven days a week to the public, most of the historic weapon displays happen on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
