Members of Congress are encouraged by the Congressional Institute to recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents; and, in St Augustine and St Johns County, our Congressman, Representative Ron DeSantis, has informed Historic City News that he wants this year’s Congressional Art Competition winner to be from our District.
Students may submit their original artwork for entrance into the competition beginning today and continuing through Friday, March 29.
“Florida’s 6th district is brimming with talented students and I look forward to seeing the creative and original artwork that they submit,” DeSantis told local Historic City News reporters. “I encourage all eligible students to enter this competition.”
According to DeSantis, more than 650,000 students from across the country have participated in this competition since 1982.
Once submitted, entries will be posted on DeSantis’ official facebook page for a period of three weeks; beginning April 1. Constituents will be encouraged to vote on their favorite artwork; and, at the end of the third week, a winner will be determined by a local panel of judges who will select from the ten submissions with the most “likes”.
Transportation will be provided for the first place winner and a guest to fly to Washington, D.C. to see their art displayed during an unveiling ceremony in June.
The winning piece of artwork will be displayed at the United States Capitol for one year.
The second place and third place winners will be displayed in Congressman DeSantis’ district offices.
Teachers and students interested in the Congressional Art Competition should contact Rep. DeSantis’ Washington office at 202-225-2706 or visit desantis.house.gov for further information on submission guidelines and criteria.
