Historic City News readers in Congressional District 6 showed up in number last night as our new Republican House Representative Ron DeSantis held his second Town Hall meeting at Flagler Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast.
A crowd of roughly 300 people had the opportunity to engage DeSantis on topics ranging from sequestration to the congressman’s first piece of legislation, which passed the House on Friday.
“Hearing from the constituents who elected me to represent them in Congress is the most important part of this job,” DeSantis told Historic City News. “From economic growth, to government spending, there are a number of significant challenges facing this Congress and I believe the best ideas on how to tackle these issues come from the people at home in the district.”
DeSantis set the tone for his agenda in Congress during his campaign; gaining grass-roots support within the Party, and supporting hard-hitting conservative changes towards more accountability from government and its elected officials. DeSantis is already making a name for himself; both in the newly apportioned District and on Capitol Hill. He has taken a stand to either deliver the budget on time or receive no compensation, and refusal to place himself above his service to the country; refusing to accept many traditionally preferential Congressional “perks”.
