325-SPOONBILLS-SPROCKETS-LO3rd Annual Spoonbills and Sprockets Bicycle Tour

Heather Neville invited all Historic City News readers to rediscover all that is beautiful about our Historic Byway by bike during the 3rd Annual Spoonbills and Sprockets Bicycle Tour.

Perhaps no stretch of highway reaches further into America’s history than the A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway. An officially designated American Byway, the 72 miles of mostly two-lane roadway navigate nature’s beauty, history and true serenity. The land and waters on either side of the Byway have been part of the sweep of American history, nature, archaeology and recreation for nearly 500 years.

November 1st and 2nd, 250 cyclists from all over the state of Florida will take to the byway for the third annual Spoonbills and Sprockets Byway Tour, enjoying all that is special, historic, and beautiful of the 72 mile coastal stretch. From the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine to winding High Bridge Road in Gamble Rogers State Park, riders will enjoy a fully supported tour that leaves from Marineland Dolphin Adventure which sits conveniently on the St. Johns County and Flagler County line.

We would like to invite the community to participate in this year’s event. We welcome you to register for the event, offer up some volunteer time, and enjoy the welcome event at Marineland on Saturday November 1, 2014. More information on the event, A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, and how to get involved in protecting the byway, please visit www.scenica1a.org.

Spoonbills and Sprockets is proudly provided by the Friends of A1A with production assistance from Velo Fest Community Initiative who brings events such as Velo Fest 3 Day Bicycle Festival, #LetsGetPedestrian 5k, and bicycle valet to St. Johns County.

Velo Fest Community Initiative, a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit, promotes awareness of bicycle safety, healthy lifestyles through cycling activities, environmental enhancements for safe cycling, historical/cultural awareness, and the economic impact that cycling brings communities through tourism and transportation for visitors.
