Historic City News observed as the St Johns Board of County Commissioners passed a proclamation during their regular business meeting Tuesday morning, recognizing the impact of small business on our economy by designating National Small Business Week, May 12 – 16, 2014.
They also recognized the contributions of the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce, which supports 5 business councils including the Chamber Small Business Council, and the Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and represent the idea that with ingenuity and hard work, one can make a positive contribution to the community; and
WHEREAS, small businesses employ a majority of St. Johns County’s workforce and create nearly two out of every three new American jobs, and helping these vital enterprises thrive is vital to the success of our community; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and honoring the critical contributions America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners make to our economy is important as more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business; and
WHEREAS, St. Johns County closely partners with the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce and University of North Florida Small Business Development Center to provide economic development programs and activities to support local small businesses such as business training and education workshops, workforce development and networking opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the impact entrepreneurs and small business owners have on the quality of life in St. Johns County is immeasurable as they are the very fabric of our community that creates jobs, drives innovation, and increases our regional, national, and global competitiveness.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, that May 12 – 16, 2014, be designated as
NATIONAL SMALL BUSINESS WEEK
and that we, with gratitude, acknowledge the work of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce, the University of North Florida Small Business Development Center, dedicated business representatives and volunteers all working diligently to make small business count and generate positive economic impact for St. Johns County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Johns County, Florida, this 20th day of May 2014.
