Despite the best efforts of physicians to save his life, the 44-year-old victim of last week’s shooting at the downtown homeless shelter in St Augustine, has died in a Jacksonville Hospital.
Accordingly, St Augustine police have upgraded the charges against 52-year-old Darrell Tyrone Jones, who remains in custody in the St Johns County Detention Center.in lieu of an adjusted bail of $530,003.00.

St Augustine Police reported to Historic City News that they responded to a shooting call from St Francis House, located at 70 Washington Street. Emergency medical personnel arrived to find with a single gunshot wound to the neck and began emergency procedures to stabilize him for transportation.
A description of the man witnesses say committed the attack was broadcast to patrolmen in the area. Officers located Jones, who they say fit the description. He was riding a bicycle in the area, and was taken to the police department for questioning. Jones was subsequently charged.
