Historic City News learned that representatives from rail-based transportation company, CSX Corp., visited Flagler College recently to finalize the corporation’s commitment to the Flagler bike safety campaign “One Road” with the presentation of a $10,000 donation.
The two-year integrated marketing and public relations campaign to improve bike safety in Northeast Florida will launch soon. It was designed by Flagler students under the supervision of Dr. Eric Hoffman, associate professor of communication, in partnership with the North Florida Bicycle Club.
“We have many avid cyclists at CSX,” said Skip Elliot, CSX Vice President of Public Safety, Health, and Environment. “Safety is a way of life at CSX and we commend the North Florida Bicycle Club and Flagler College for this important safety advocacy effort.”
The gift from CSX, which is based in Jacksonville, will be used to fund media buys and produce radio and television spots, as well as and other materials to inform the public about how to improve bicycle safety.
“One Road is not just about educating motorists, it’s about educating cyclists as well,” Hoffman said. “The students have done a tremendous amount of work and this gift is important to their fundraising efforts. I know this campaign will have a real impact in Northeast Florida.”
