Historic City News was informed of six members of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 58 at NAS Jacksonville who have been recognized as “Sailor of the Quarter” by The St Augustine – Palm Cost Navy League during the 4th Quarter of 2014.
The Support Squadron is the adopted unit of the Navy League. Those receiving the awards this quarter were Jake Lewis, Darick Mix, Jacqueline Cain, Michael Miller and Paul Harris.
“The VR-58 Sunseekers are one of 13 Naval Air Reserve Force logistics squadrons. It is comprised of over 250 professionals, both Full Time Support and selected reservists,” said Acting Liaison, Claude Caviness; who, with Garry Cohn, attended the ceremonies. “VR-58 provided logistical humanitarian relief for the US Hurricanes, Haiti Earthquake, Japan Tsunami and Pakistan Earthquake, among other events.”
The ceremony in early December was presided over by Commander Tony Gutierrez USN, VR-58 Commanding Officer and Command Master Chief Charles Slaton USN.
The League also supports four JROTC units in local area high schools as well as their own Navy League Sea Cadet battalion.
