Captain Costeira replaces recently retired Chief Mike Arnold. He has served with the fire department for over 27 years and has held the rank of Captain since 2008.
“The St. Augustine Fire Department has a long tradition of total commitment to the people of our city and I am confident that JC will continue that tradition,” said Regan in making the announcement. “We have in JC a person who already knows the department, his fellow firefighters, and the community.”
Costeira grew up in St Augustine, finished high school at St Joseph’s Academy, and is the son of James Costeira who served the city as a commissioner in the late 1980’s.
“We are all very fortunate to have this level of skill, knowledge and commitment already in the department and ready to step into this leadership position,” Regan concluded.
