Following extensive investigation of an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 21st, Historic City News has been informed that the hunt is on for a 26-year-old St Augustine man; who police say, struck one law enforcement officer with his vehicle, and attempted to hit at least three others.
Deputies were conducting a traffic stop behind the St Augustine Police Department; when they reported that Andrew Thomas Stanton, whose last known address was 91 Kings Ferry Way in St Augustine, approached the traffic stop and refused all commands to stay out of the scene.
Stanton then returned to his vehicle and drove into the area where the officers were conducting the traffic stop; striking one officer, who was transported to Flagler Hospital for treatment of his injuries, and, narrowly missing three other officers on the scene.
The US Marshal Service has joined robbery-homicide detectives with the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office in the search for Stanton, who has a lengthy arrest history and previous, violent interactions with law enforcement officers.
Stanton is wanted for three counts of attempted murder, one count of fleeing and attempting to elude police, and one count of resisting an officer with violence — all are felony charges.
DO NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH THIS CRIMINAL. If you have information as to Stanton’s whereabouts, please notify police immediately.
