Florida Department of Transportation alerted local Historic City News reporters that a section of bike trail along SR-207, from Moccasin Branch to CR-305 in St. Johns County, will close starting Monday for repairs.
Repairs are needed to reinforce the foundation of the trail, including the slopes adjacent to the trail, to minimize the possibility of cracks or settling. The asphalt of the existing trail will be removed, and a stabilization material will be installed prior to repaving. In addition, parts of the trail will be reduced from 12 feet to 10 feet wide to provide space to decrease the steepness of the slopes.
Drainage channels will be installed at various locations to move water away from the trail and minimize erosion.
FDOT hired Commercial Industrial Corporation of Reddick to complete the $1.2 million project by early 2015.
