Tonight’s “An Evening of Gospel Music,” part of the Concerts in the Plaza summer concert series, has been cancelled because of inclement weather.
According to the Public Affairs Department, the storms that moved through the area this afternoon left standing water in the Plaza and with more rain expected, the decision was made to cancel the event. In addition, because the performance included a large number of performers, it was necessary to give the performers sufficient notice since several were traveling from Jacksonville.
“We are very disappointed since staff worked diligently to pull this special program together in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,” said Paul Williamson, Public Affairs Director. “We have spoken to the performers and we will strive to reschedule the program in the near future.
