Applications being accepted for HARB appointment

300-COSA-ARMS-LOGO-HCMAlison Ratkovic, St Augustine City Clerk, has informed Historic City News that applications are being accepted to fill one three-year term on the Historic Architectural Review Board.

Interested individuals who reside within the St Augustine city limits and meet the minimum qualifications are invited to submit applications for this volunteer board.

Qualified applicants shall hold no governmental office nor receive any salary or compensation for their services as a board member.

All members of the Historic Architectural Review Board shall have either thorough training or experience in:

  • history or related fields
  • archaeology
  • architectural history
  • historic architecture
  • art history

The deadline to submit an application is Monday, March 13th, at 5:00 p.m. with the appointment scheduled to be made during the City Commission meeting of March 23rd.

St. Augustine’s Historic Architectural Review Board meets the third Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in The Alcazar Room at City Hall, 75 King St.

Each of the five members of the board are appointed by the City Commission for a three year term and no member may serve more than two consecutive full terms.

HARB considers and acts on applications for Certificates of Appropriateness in Historic Preservation (HP) districts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, on building permits on property abutting HP-1, HP-2 and HP-3 and on applications for demolition permits for structures 50 years old or older within the city limits.

HARB also advises property owners and government agencies concerning maintenance, protection, enhancement and preservation of historic resources and may designate historic landmarks.
