Historic City News is following a bill in the Florida Senate that if passed will restrict an employer’s access to their employee’s social media accounts.
Senate Bill 186 passed through the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee on Monday. If enacted, it will make it illegal for any employer in the state to require access to employee’s or potential employee’s social media accounts, like facebook and twitter.
The same bill died in that committee last year, according to a report by the Sunshine State News.
The proposed bill is sponsored by Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-Lake Worth.
Videos, pictures, blogs and audio recordings, as well as instant messages and emails, would also be protected digital materials, according to the language in the bill.
