The suspect, identified as Herman Paul Solano, reportedly living at 875 Avery Street, was transported to Flagler Hospital with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds. He was later transferred by air ambulance to UF Health trauma center in Jacksonville. His condition at this hour is unknown.
Solano faces charges including burglary to an occupied dwelling. Additional charges include felony battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firing a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, child abuse, and violation of conditions of his pre-trial release.
The sheriff’s office responded to a disturbance call at a mobile home in the 900 block of Sidney Street at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. Deputies were warned that Solano had forced entry into the victim’s residence and allegedly threatened to kill her. At the time of the call, Solano had barricaded himself in the bedroom with the victim.
Solano allegedly fired multiple gunshots next to the victim’s head and struck her numerous times in the head and face with the pistol. She was able to escape the room and flee from a rear door of the residence with her three young children.
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene after Solano threatened to shoot anyone who came into the residence. Negotiators spoke with Solano for a period of time, then deputies with the SWAT team made entry into the home, to find the suspect unresponsive.
