As afternoon rain returns to downtown St Augustine, we aren’t seeing the lightening that showed this morning, but there is a different hazard to avoid — pedestrians and cars that do not know where to turn.
Keep in mind that a lot of people driving cars downtown are unfamiliar with our one-way streets, special events closures, detours, and blind spots. Pedestrians got caught by surprise with the current rain storm, many are not prepared and do not have umbrellas. They are running into traffic trying to avoid the rain, but they are creating a greater than usual hazard.
National Weather Service is predicting storms, off and on, for the remainder of today and into tomorrow, some with lightening.
Allow a little extra time if you are heading through town. Remember that road closures are in effect beginning at 5:00 p.m.
